Lydia Gessner is currently a senior at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
She is studying English with a concentration in creative and professional writing. She will be graduating in the spring of 2024.
Here is what Lydia has to say about St. Joseph Community School:
"When I think of St. Joseph Community School, one of the words that comes to mind is home. I cannot say enough good things about the education that I received here and I can sincerely say that it has prepared me for my future in so many ways. I can still remember the nights I spent studying for tests in fifth and sixth grade. Those study habits and work ethic that were instilled in me from a young age have given me the tools to succeed in both high school and college. I also learned so many valuable technology skills at St. Joe’s that I have carried with me throughout my life. I always felt supported and loved by the staff at St. Joe’s in a way that always pushed me to try my best. I appreciate the dedication to service that was instilled in me from a young age at this school, as well. My love for running was also born at St. Joe’s while running laps around Runion Park. I still think of those moments sometimes as I run collegiately. At. St. Joe’s, my faith was cultivated and intertwined with academics, volunteering, and athletics, and truly everything that we did. This was so valuable and formative during my growing up years, alongside what I was learning at home and at church about my faith. Coming from a non-denominational church and going to a Catholic school, I always felt that my faith was supported and welcomed. I was openly invited to share my opinions and beliefs in class while learning more about the Catholic faith, as well. I truly feel like I received a solid Christian education at St. Joe’s throughout my years there, and the supportive community truly made the people feel like family and this place feel like home."
